Introduction

Set high in the mist-covered mountains of Sri Lanka’s central highlands, Horton Plains National Park is a treasure trove of natural beauty and ecological diversity. A UNESCO World Heritage site, this park is home to unique high-altitude ecosystems, from lush forests to sweeping grasslands, and is one of the island’s most iconic trekking destinations.

The trek through Horton Plains offers an incredible journey through varying landscapes, including mist-covered forests and vast open plains dotted with wildflowers. The highlight of the trek is the stunning World’s End, a sheer cliff drop of over 1,000 meters, where panoramic views of the surrounding valleys and distant peaks will take your breath away. At the right time of day, the mist will clear to reveal a landscape unlike anything else, where the earth seems to drop away into the clouds.

Along the way, you’ll encounter a variety of endemic flora and fauna, including the elusive Sri Lanka leopard, the endangered purple-faced langur, and a wide range of birds such as the Sri Lanka Bush Warbler and the bright-yellow Yellow-eared Bulbul. The park is also home to a remarkable array of wildflowers, making it a paradise for nature photographers.

roar & rove

We are not a typical wildlife safari operator. At Roar & Rove, we practice ethical wildlife tourism, crafting safaris especially for wildlife photographers and nature enthusiasts who wish to see Sri Lanka’s wilderness through a different lens. Our safaris use photographer-friendly vehicles and are guided by some of the most experienced safari drivers in each national park — professionals who understand that nature’s rhythms can’t be predicted or controlled. While we’ll do our best to create the perfect conditions for unforgettable encounters, we never offer animal sighting guarantees. Instead, we promise a safari that’s authentic, respectful, and deeply connected to the natural world — where every moment, expected or not, becomes part of the story. Thank you for understanding, and we look forward to welcoming you to our colorful, Wild Island.
